Reminders

It is the little things that make me smile and bring the memories of Uganda crashing back.

Last week I was unpacking. I pulled out a bundle of clothes from my big backpack. As I pulled them out a dead cockroach fell out. While in Uganda the dense population of cockroaches in my house annoyed me, this particular one made me smile and I was truly happy to see it.

Today at lunch I ate a mango. It wasn't very sweet and even tasted a bit chemically. I was not impressed. But as I continued to bite into it the juices began dripping down my hands and arms and the strings got stuck in my teeth and on my face. It was in that moment that I was reminded of the many mangoes I ate in Uganda in the exact same fashion with the same effects. I began to smile and was very happy to be eating that mango.

May the little things continue to bring me deep gladness.
